After launching our new site a few weeks ago, we have now upgraded the CMS to Joomla 2.5. As support for Joomla 1.7 will end shortly, any new sites created will now be supplied using Joomla 2.5. which was officially release on 28/01/12.

The upgrade process from 1.7.3 to 2.5 was completed efficiently using the Akeeba back-up component (just in-case) and the new Joomla update plugin. This new system automatically detects that a new version has been released, downloads the package file, extracts it to your server and then overwrites and adds any new files to your site.

After a few minutes we were using the latest and best version of Joomla.

We recommend that any older sites be upgraded to the latest version of Joomla to ensure they remain 100% secure against hacking and attacks. Although the upgrade process is getting easier with each new version of Joomla, (as detailed above) it is still essential prior to upgrading that we complete a full back-up of each site  and confirm that any third-party components/modules are compatible with the new version.
