Running from Tuesday 24th to Thursday 26th, the industry expo portion of the airshow drew in a range of businesses from all around the world. From government agencies to engineers, part manufacturers and makers of missiles, a globally diverse crowd frequented the three exposition halls set up at Avalon.
Inside the halls hundreds of stands were set up for individual businesses to draw in new clientele, strengthen connections with current business partners and hopefully show the industry what made them stand out from the crowd. Everything was on offer; scale models, actual private jets available to purchase, skydiving simulators, Google glasses, the latest warfare technology - if a field had anything at all to do with aerospace or defence they had a presence at this expo.
It was a showcase of the latest and greatest technology. There were samples of models of planes that won't be available for purchase until 2016 but are already sold out, and everyone was eager to point out how they were abreast of new technology and ahead of the game. And in a department like national defence, it makes sense to be constantly on the lookout for the best and brightest technology.
There was a strong focus on cloud computing and bringing the technology used by aerospace companies into the same sphere as their planes and helicopters. Next generation technology such as Google Glasses and wearable tech were big drawcards for the manufacturing industry, highlighting how the field could benefit from more immediately updating, hands free technology to cut down administration time and improve the reliability of record keeping.
Everyday technology was also on show in the form of the Avalon 2015 App. This app was designed to enhance networking opportunities and help trade visitors, conference delegates and exhibitors gain the most out of the event experience. All registered exhibitors had the opportunity to have their contact details (and those of an attending representative, too, if they wished) listed in the online trade directory, making it easier for exhibitors to find each other and to be found by trade visitors.
Every booth at the show was also provided with a sheet of paper with a QR code printed on it. Passersby or visitors to their stand could scan the QR code through the Avalon 2015 App and that exhibitor's contact details would automatically appear.
Another useful part of the app was its extensive and up-to-date event information, including floor plans, exhibitor and sponsor profiles, the trade directory and timetables. As well as being able to see a full timetable of all the functions, conferences and presentations on offer, users of the app were also able to create their own personal itinerary by selecting the individual events they wished to attend.
For the public airshow spectacular, organisers provided a full rundown of events, amenities and general information on their website, available here.
